Tribute to Jagjit Singh: Pakistani national Rohail Khan organizes VIP Ghazal Night on October 11

Jagjit Singh was a legendary Ghazal singer and music composer, from Rajasthan, India. He gained recognition (with wife Chitra Singh) in late 1970's and remained at professional peak until his death two years ago on 10th October 2011.

Jagjit Singh is credited for the revival and popularity of Ghazal, by choosing Urdu poetry relevant to the common people. His style of Gayeki (singing) is called Bol Pradhan, one that lays emphasis on words. Selecting Jagjit Saheb’s most famous Ghazals will be doing injustice to the great Ghazal Maestro. It will be more appropriate to comment that almost every third Ghazal he rendered became famous.

Without doubt, Jagjit Singh’s most memorable works are his composition and rendering of the esoteric poetry of Mirza Ghalib. Verily so, Jagjit Saheb’s voice and passion for Mirza Ghalib made the ghazals glow eternally. Jagjit Singh’s ghazals are cherished by millions of Urdu Lovers around the world. He reigned our hearts for three decades and left us two years ago. May he rest in peace.

Rohail Khan, Canadian-Pakistani, is a senior banker, media adviser, social worker, and philanthropist. Since 2001, he is engaged in developing communities through literature, culture, and music. Talent promotion and events management are his passions and Rohail has launched various artists from his platform.

Imran Seher, a business executive working in Saudi Arabia, is a God-gifted ghazal artist and well-trained in the Rajhistani gharana of classical music. Imran’s rendering of Jagjit Singh’s ghazals will definitely mesmerise you.

To commemorate the 2nd death anniversary of Jagjit Singh, a VIP Ghazal Night is being co-sponsored by Rohail Khan on the eve of Friday 11th October 2013. of Pakistan, Karachi, and Merchant Productions. Express TV and 24.7 Brands, Pakistan’s upcoming media group, have been selected as the Media Partners.

Shoaib Siddiqui, Commissioner of Karachi, will be the Chief Guest. The VIP Ghazal event will be cherished by over 2,500 dignitaries, socialites and celebrities from Karachi and other cities. Over fifty Ghazal enthusiasts are specially travelling from Middle East to participate in this memorable event.
