Bhopal: All the 50 districts in Madhya Pradesh will become e-districts by the end of this year. Five districts including Indore, Guna, Gwalior, Sagar and Shivpuri have already been made e-districts under a pilot project.

Works of e-district in the five pilot project districts have been carried out with the cooperation of Public Service Management Department. E-district is running on the software of the department. The work of providing government services electronically was started on July 27, 2012. So far, 52,000 applications have been received electronically, of which 60 per cent have been disposed of.

In view of pilot project’s success, the State Government had sent a proposal to the Union Government for implementing e-district project in all the districts. Estimated cost of the project was Rs.143 crore. The Union Government has accepted this proposal and sanctioned Rs. 115 crore to the State Government. Remaining funds will be met from the state’s budget. The state has received Rs.4.5 crore as the first instalment. These funds have been made available to 45 districts’ e-Governance Societies at the rate of Rs. 10 lakh per district. Each society will spend the amount of interest accruing on these funds on operating the scheme.

The objective of the e-district project is to make available government service to common people easily through electronic medium. Its another objective is to ensure automation and electrification of offices of departments in districts. All the procedures will be online under the system. This system will ensure easy and effective delivery of various services through Citizens Facilitation Centres, Public Service Centres, State-wide Area Network, State Data Centre etc. Besides, credibility, accountability and transparency in providing public services will also increase.
