Bhopal: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has expressed deep concern and anguish over eruption of communal violence in Kosi Kalan town of Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh wherein Muslims were targetted leading to the loss of four lives. The SDPI demanded adequate compensation to the next of kin of the deceased and punitive fine imposed on the accused including necessary action against those persons of local administration who did not take timely action.

SDPI national president E. Aboobacker has taken to task the local administration including the police under the ruling Samajwadi Party for its negligence in the escalation of the riots. However, Mr. Aboobacker appreciated the action taken, though belatedly, by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in transferring the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Mathura district for the breakout of riots.

Mr. Aboobacker in a statement said that Samajwadi Party came back to power when Muslims overwhelmingly voted in favour of it in the recent state assembly elections but it is very unfortunate that still the safety of Muslim community is at stake. Muslims are suffering despite their support for the party, he added.

He demanded that the Uttar Pradesh Government should give at least Rs.20 lakhs per deceased and 5 lakhs each to those injured in the riots. An appropriate compensation should be granted to those persons whose shops or houses were damaged in the communal violence.

Mr Aboobacker demanded that the looted property should be recovered from the culprits or its cost levied from them. The state Government should ensure fool-proof safety of the Muslim community members so that in future such incidents do not reoccur, he added.

Intensive methods for propagation of communal harmony should be adopted by the government as the communal forces are intensively striving to spread hatred by the help of media and extremist network, the statement said.
