Madhya Pradesh targets 12 percent increase in growth rate under 12th Five-Year Plan

Bhopal: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled Madhya Pradesh Government has proposed a target of 12 percent growth rate for the 12th Five-Year Plan. The gross growth rate of the state was over 10 percent during the 11th Five-Year Plan.


This information was given at meeting held in connection with preparations for the meeting of the Planning Commission here today (May 8, 2012). The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Finance Minister Mr. Raghavji, Deputy Chairman of State Planning Commission Babulal Jain and Chief Secretary R. Parasuram were present at the meeting.


Chief Minister Mr. Chouhan instructed that only proposals of schemes based information connected with ground realities should be proposed, which can be implemented successfully in the state. He instructed to pay special attention to issues pertaining to common people’s upliftment and infrastructural development. He said that such concrete and practical works should be proposed like a high school in every five kilometer radius, clean drinking water for urban and rural populace, linking all the villages in the state with all-weather roads, expansion of health facilities, 24-hour power supply, agricultural development, expansion of irrigation facilities, skill development, employment, empowerment of women, scheduled castes and tribes.


Meanwhile, the meeting was informed that maximum decline in infant mortality rate in the country has been registered in Madhya Pradesh. Mother mortality rate has also come down considerably. Agriculture area has increased by seven per cent and production by 25 per cent during the last five years. The total area under irrigation including government and private sectors has crossed 20 lakh hectares. Area under irrigation was only eight lakh hectares in the year 2007-08. Roads measuring 49 thousand 445 kilometers have been constructed in the state under Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna, which is maximum in the country. Man and Jobat irrigation projects have been recognised as national precedents.
