Kashmiris create history

By Ishfaq-ul-Hassan

Srinagar: Ten youth, including seven Muslims, from J&K have cracked the civil services this year bringing joy to the people of the restive state.

In 2010, Shah Faesal of Kupwara created history by becoming the first Kashmiri Muslim to top the civil services. This year, 25-year-old medico Syed Sehrish became the first Muslim woman to qualify IAS/IPS and the second to crack the civil services, in J&K.

Syed, who had earlier topped the Kashmir administrative service 2010 examination, got the 118 rank in the civil services. “I did MBBS but was always inclined towards civil service. I wanted to serve people and therefore applied for KAS. But my dream was to get into all India services,” Syed said.
