Lucknow: Thousands of Muslims held a massive anti-Israel protest in Lucknow on Friday (March 30, 2012) demanding the "liberation" of Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque. The rally was organized to support the "Global March to Jerusalem" movement. The rally was held under the auspices of Islamic Centre of India, Farangi Mahal, Lucknow, under the leadership of Maulana Khaid Rasheed Farangi Mahli.

Such marches are already underway throughout the Arab world, and are heading towards the countries that neighbour Israel -- Syria , Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt. Protests are also scheduled in the Paleastinian-administered territories, and against Israel's embassies in major cities all over the world.

A huge procession comprising prominent clerics and people from all walks of life under the aegis of Islamic Centre of India led by its Chairman, Imam of Eidgah Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli was taken out on Friday, March 30, carrying banners that read "Save Masjid-e-Aqsa". Keeping in with the protest march being held by Palestinians to uphold their cause, the purpose of the march was to raise a voice against atrocities being committed by the government of Israel against innocent men, women and children and Palestine for the past several years, as the world community as well as the United Nations choose to remain mute spectators.

The march began from Farangi Mahal Gate, Chowk and culminated at Masjid Taqviyatul Imaan, Nadan Mahal Road, Lucknow. Maulana Khalid Rasheed Mahli delivered a speech and expressed solidarity towards all those supporting the restoration of human rights to the people of Palestine.

Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli regreted that the world media never misses a chance to cover the slightest of accidents, but has not paid any attention to the plight of innocent Palestinians, including infants and the incapitated elderly, who fell to the bullets of armed forces of Israel for no fault of theirs. He made an appeal to the Indian government as well as to the United Nations to take note of this gross violation of human rights that was putting the entire humanity to shame and world peace at peril. He also asked the international community and powers to ensure that the Masjid-e-Aqsa, which is the third most sacred religious place of the Muslims, is saved from being targeted by the Israel government.

"A memorandum was presented to the administration addressed to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and the Secretary General of United Nations, to carry forward the appeal of the community to safeguard human rights in Palestine," said Maulana Naieem-u-Rahman, General Secretary, Islamic Centre of India, in a press release.

Other prominent Ulamas also addressed the gathering. In Old City, shops remained closed in support of the march. A large number of youngsters participated in the march.
