The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has hailed the Samajwadi Party (SP) for its grand triumphant return to power with absolute majority in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the results of which were announced on Tuesday (March 6, 2012).

SDPI National President E. Aboobacker in a statement has congratulated SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav for his party’s runaway victory in the state Vidhan Sabha polls. The architect of this victory has been none other but his son Akhilesh Yadav who meticulously planned and brought about the silent coup without much media glare. The scion of the SP supremo who in the process floored many of his high profile and famed leaders of the other parties.

Mr. Aboobacker reminded Mulayam Singh that it is the consolidation of Muslim votes in favour of SP that paved the way for its big victory and propelled it to power. As such the managers of the SP should keep the welfare of Muslims high up in their minds during its reign of next five years. The promises made to the Muslims by the party, especially on the reservation count, should be honoured in letter and spirit. This will help the SP to consolidate its position further and retain power in the next elections after five years.

He appreciated that Rahul Gandhi has accepted the moral responsibility for the Congress’ pathetic performance which remained fourth below the BJP in the tally of seats. The results have demonstrated that Muslims have not forgiven Congress for Batla House episode and for not implementing Sachchar Committee & Ranganath Mishra Commission’s recommendations, he added.
