Muslim Spelling Bee competition conducts California regional competition at Orange Crescent School, California

California, USA: The nationwide World’s first Muslim Spelling Bee competition hosted its second regional competition at Orange Crescent School, New Jersey which was held on March 17, 2012 and students from Islamic, Public, Private and Home School from West Coast and adjoining states participated.

The event started at 8.30 am with registration and followed by recitation of the Holy Quran by the Mohammad Abdullah Arif and translation by Musaab Bin Tariq both from Orange Crescent School. The participants were divided according to their ages into 3 groups A, B & C and they were guided by the volunteers to their respective sitting arrangements.

The Boad of Director of Orange Crescent School Sr. Farhat Khan introduced the founders of the Muslim Spelling Bee -Tausif Malik & Dr.Asma Rizvi and the Imam Suhail Mulla, Islamic Society of Orange County.

The Board, Principal of Orange Crescent School, Islamic Society of Orange County and founders of Muslim Spelling Bee welcomed and thanked everyone present at the event and this was followed by the competition of Group A which consisted of students up to 8 years old and which had the highest numbers of participants. After Group A, Group B was called on stage for the competition and followed by Group C.All the finalists regaled the audience with their tough competition.The pronouncers for the competition were Hira Hasnain, Ann Ghanem and Muhaiminul Islam and Judges Maksuda Parveen, Nida Aslam and Myra Mughal and they were supported by volunteers Qamar Mughal, Nasreen Patel and Anam Aslam.

The winners of Group A First Position Aaminah Fatimah Mohammed (Natoma Station Elementary) & Second Position Seif Hesham El Askary(Orange Crescent School).
The winners of Group B First Position joint winners Maya Ghanem (Earths Magnet School in Newbury Park) & Safiyah Amin Lakhany (Orange Crescent School) & Second Position Neha Farhan (Lincoln Alternative School Corona).

The winners of Group C First Position Maryam Arshi Bharucha (Daar Ul Ilm - Institute of Knowledge) & Second Position Sana Zehra (Harker School).

The event concluded with award ceremony and awards were presented to the winners by Committee of Muslim Spelling Bee at Orange Crescent School, which included Huma Hasnain, Salma Dadabhoy and Naseem Shariff.

Orange Crescent principal Dr.Parisa Popalzai said that “It is an honor to host the World’s First Muslim Spelling Bee California regional competition and it truly unites the Muslim Community through education, thank you for coming and we are looking forward for seeing you all next year, InshaAllah”.She further added that “Thank you Br.Tausif and Dr.Asma Rizvi for starting this program”.

Human Hasnain the Chairperson of the Committee of Muslim Spelling Bee at Orange Crescent School said that “Spelling bee is our school forte and we were excited to host the Muslim Spelling Bee and it is an exciting experience for all of us and we are looking forward for the next year competion”.

According to Muslim Spelling Bee founders all the participants are winners as they worked hard and learned value of education and competition and hence they were awarded with participation certificates.

According to message sent by Sara Taher Khan, CEO of TV ONE Global, which is the official television and radio partner of Muslim Spelling Bee competition, said that we would be recording and broadcasting the event shortly. She further said that “TVONE global is available for subscribers on DishNetwork Channel 904 as part of the Pak Mega Pak and On Rogers channel 857 in Canada. We will be having a Free to air session in Canada shortly, so they will be able to see the promos etc.

Dr. Asma Rizvi co-founder Muslim Spelling Bee thanked everyone and informed about the forthcoming regional competition to be held in New York, Michigan, Illinois, Texas (Dallas & Houston), Florida and Georgia.
