Hyderabad: Amjed Ullah Khan, Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader and Corporator of Azampura Division, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, has strongly protested the damage to graveyard and heritage monument for construction of highrise commercial complex at Mumtaz Mansion HNo: 6-2-30/1&2, Lakdi Ka Pull in Hyderabad.

Khan has written a letter to Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on March 24, 2012 seeking his immediate attention and urgent action over the issue.

Khan, who sent a copy of the letter to the news portal IndianMuslimObserver.com, wrote: “Dear Chief Minister, This is to bring to your kind notice that Mr.Mirza Kusru Ali Baig and others have applied to GHMC for permission to build a commercial complex vide file No: 59443/29/08/2011 in respect of property bearing HNo: 6-2-30/1 & 2 Lakdi Ka Pull, Hyderabad. There exists a Muslim Graveyard measuring 580 Sq Yards within the premises as shown in the Inquiry Officer report and plan dated:9/9/1980 Mumtaz Mansion HNo: 6-2-30 at Lakdi Ka Pull prepared by ULC Authorities in CC No: E1/502/76. I request you not to give permission without verifying the ULC Plan in the above said ceiling file, and it is also requested to ask the party or the GHMC (Town Planning) wing to take a necessary No-objection from the Andhra Pradesh State Wakf Board (APSWB) before giving necessary permission.

“The said party without obtaining necessary permission has started digging a huge cellar which is violation of prescribed rules and has damaged most of the graves in the existing Graveyard. There also exists a Mukarram Jah Boys Hostel in the premises of Aasman Mahal which is protected monument and has been listed as Heritage structure. Due to heavy digging during nights the Heritage monument is being damaged and may fall off. It is requested to post a police picket at the site so the illegal digging does not go on during nights. Necessary action taken in this regard may be intimated to me.”
