UP Polls 2012: Battle versus Modi and Gandhis

By Abdul Hafiz Lakhani

Ahmedabad: Close on the heels of SIT report surrounding CM Narendra Modi, Gujarat BJP shot an arm as Hindu haday samarat alias Modi is likely to go Uttatr predesh to compaign for BJP for remainig phases of elections.he will put himself as Gandhi family.

To counter the charisma of the Gandhis in Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the BJP wants Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to come out to campaign for the party in the next couple of days. . Earlier, Rahul and Priyanka were together in Sultanpur.

After keeping himself away from the hurly-burly of electioneering in Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls till now, Modi, it is learnt, may finally send the dates of his programme to the BJP central office.according to Modi media managers, who feels that the BJP campaign will get the much-needed impetus if the Hindutva icon also jumps into the election fray.

Sources stated that BJP President Nitin Gadkari, along with senior leaders, is pleading with Modi to campaign in the Hindi-heartland, at least now, when four-phases of polling are left.
The BJP gameplan is to force a polarisation at least during the last two rounds of the UP Assembly polls that accounts for 128 Assembly seats.

Modi alone can effectively consolidate the 27 per cent OBC vote, as they are angry that 9 per cent sub-quota has been promised to Muslims from out of the 27 per cent quota for OBCs. Himself an OBC, the BJP feels Modi can polarize the OBCs in opposition to Muslim sub-quota, making it an emotive issue.

For Gadkari, whose own prestige and survival is at stake in this round of elections, is keen to score a better tally than the Congress in the UP Assembly polls. For him, taking the help of Modi at this juncture would only help in improving the party’s performance in the State, where the electorate is polarized on communal and caste lines.

Modi will serve the twin purposes of wooing both the Hindus and the OBCs to the party fold. His campaign would come as a boon for the party, as he will also be raking-up the issue of the Hindutva terror, particularly after the arrest of Rajesh Chauhan, a master-mind behind the blast in the Samjhauta Express in 2007.
