SDPI’s Madhya Pradesh unit submits memorandum to state Governor, expresses anguish over harassment of Sanjiv Bhatt & Ms. Kavita Shrivastava

By Pervez Bari

Bhopal: A delegation of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) Madhya Pradesh unit led by its president Adv. Sajid Siddiqui called on the state Governor Mr. Ram Naresh Yadav and submitted memorandum to him addressed to the President of India expressing anguish over the harassment of Gujarat IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt and PUCL secretary Ms. Kavita Shrivastava.

One another memorandum was also hand over to the Governor addressed to him by Adv. Siddiqui alleging that BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh Government is besieged with communalism. This is casting its shadow on the common man especially on minorities, Dalits, OBCs and the poor people who are becoming victims of atrocities unleashed by the fascist forces.

The Governor gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured to forward their memoranda to the concerned authorities for redressal of their grievances.

The memorandum addressed to the President of India protested the harassment of Gujarat IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt and PUCL secretary Ms. Kavita Shrivastava whose house was raided jointly by Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh police in Jaipur after her exposure of the facts of Gopalgarh police action and communal violence.

The memorandum strongly demanded that the Union as well as state governments may be issued suitable guidelines for the safety and dignity of the whistleblowers, human-right activists and government officers/employees particularly in Gujarat where officers like Sanjeev Bhatt are being persecuted and harassed by government on account of their dissent regarding post-Godhra-state-sponsored.

The memorandum addressed to the state Governor said that minorities are in a state of fear in many villages of various districts of the state following communal riots and police’s alleged negative role in it. On the other hand the BJP Government has saffronised school education with the introduction of textbooks in government schools having courses of one particular religion. The Education Department has introduced Geetasaar, Devputr, Surya Namaskar, Bhojan Mantra & Shlok in government run schools. This is compelling the parents of students belonging to minority communities to withdraw their wards from state run government schools, the memorandum alleged.

Others who accompanied Adv. Sajid in the delegation were Adv. Ishaq Mansoori and Adv. Arshad Jamal.
