Farmers’ Online registration gains momentum in Madhya Pradesh

By Pervez Bari

Bhopal: In Bharatiya Janata Party ruled Madhya Pradesh the work of online registration of state's farmers to facilitate them to sell their produce on support price has gained momentum.

During the last one month, the number of registered farmers has gone up to 7,274. Eight hundred to 900 registrations are being made every day. The State Government intends to cover maximum number of farmers under the scheme. Therefore, the process of Online registration will continue up to March before the procurement season begins.

It has been made abundantly clear that this advance registration is in the interest of farmers. For this purpose, entire system is being strong, transparent and easy. Farmers' overwhelming response to the scheme can be gauged by the fact that 7,274 farmers have got themselves registered in just one month. These include some farmers who sell large quantities of produce.

According to Commissioner Food Mrs. Deepali Rastogi, over 977 farmers have been registered in Jabalpur followed by 821 farmers in Seoni district. Importantly, 800 to 900 farmers are getting registered everyday nowadays while this number was 200 to 300 daily in the initial stages.

The government has made double facility available to farmers for registration. Under it, 4,000 kiosks and Public Utility Centres have been activated. The staff posted at these centres are extending help to farmers in filling their forms and giving them important information. District Controller of Food has been made nodal officer to keep watch over the grass-root level. The collectors are also undertaking regular reviews of entire process. Four Contact Officers have been appointed division-wise for coordination. Not only this, but farmers have also been given facility of toll-free number 1800-233-6411 for solving their problems and difficulties at the state level.

The purpose of online registration is to send SMS alert to farmers about date and venue for selling their produce on support price. This will help them avoid unnecessary inconvenience of facing heavy rush at procurement centres. Similarly, only farmers belonging to the state will be able to sell their produce on procurement price since the per quintal bonus of procurement of wheat is maximum in comparison to other states.

Meanwhile, publicity has been intensified to inform farmers far and wide about the benefit of online registration. This work is being undertaken as per local conditions of the districts.
