Udaipur (Rajasthan): Udaipur police have imposed Section 144 in the city after a mass protest by people of the Muslim community at the Mukherjee Chowk and Anjuman neighborhood on Sunday evening, 20 Nov 2011 in retaliation to the explicit anti-Islamic graphics posted on the social networking site Facebook.

Earlier, the Anjuman Committee had proposed a bandh on Tuesday 22, November 2011 if the Police failed to arrest the culprit. However, after a joint meeting with Udaipur Collector Hemant Ghera the bandh has been cancelled.

“Since the said offense is not made from Udaipur city and due to technical obstacles it is not possible to trace the culprit in the given deadline of 24 hours. An FIR is already lodged by the Muslim community and we are investigating the case” said Hemant Ghera, while addressing the meeting today with various Muslim groups and organizations.

Similar protests by Muslims were also reported from Dungarpur, a small town south of Udaipur today. This led to a police lathicharge in order to disperse the un-controllable crowd. The condition in Dungarpur is said to be under control and Section 144 has been imposed to maintain law and order.

Heavy police personnel have been deployed in all Muslim areas in Udaipur and since Section-144 is already effective till the next order, gatherings, demonstration or rally of any kind irrespective of caste, community or religion is prohibited.

A graphically illustrated photograph of Islamic Holy Place Ka’aba was spread on social networking site which has over 500 million users worldwide. The miscreant is still at large due to lack of coordination between administration and Facebook authorities as the Facebook officials are hard to reach since they generally don’t get serious over such issues.

More than a million facebook accounts have been reported HACKED, many from Bangalore, but Facebook is commenting, “Our users are safe” (source)

According to social networking experts, it is nearly impossible to track the hacked profile without the consent of Facebook which has its India office Facebook India Pvt. Ltd in Hyderabad.

A continuous coordination of the Cyber Crime Cell at Udaipur and support from Facebook is necessary to reach the culprit.
