Bhopal: Stage is all set for the launch of "Beti Bachao Abhiyan" (Save the Girl Child campaign) in the Bharatiya Janata Party, (BJP), ruled Madhya Pradesh which will kick-start here on Wednesday (October 5) from the state's Chief Minister's official residence. An oath will be taken in all the districts of the state for saving daughters. Programmes will also be held at district headquarters on the occasion.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will administer the oath of saving daughters at his residence. Songs written by poets and drama focusing daughters will also be performed on the occasion.

Mr. Chouhan and his wife Mrs. Sadhna Singh will welcome girls at CM House by applying tilak on their foreheads. They will shower flower petals on the girls and serve food to them. "Kanyna Poojan" will be performed traditionally on the occasion. Menu of food will also be traditional. It will include kheer, halwa, cooked vegetables, pakoras, grams etc. Parents accompanying daughters will also be served food.

As the programme being held in the CM House on the day of Navami, those nine daughters will also come, responsibility of whose upbringing and education has been taken up by the Chief Minister for years.

Mr. Chouhan has said that "Beti Bachao Abhiyan" will not remain a government programme only but will be turned into a mass movement. It will be participated by representatives of various religions, castes, and societies, cultural and business organisations apart from social and political workers.

He said that society would have to shed its mindset of viewing girls as a burden with a view to improving fast depleting sex ratio, he added.

The Chief Minister said that separate discussions would be held with religious heads and preachers, social reformers, non-government organisations, heads of media groups, representatives of communities and political parties and they will be urged to bringing about a positive change vis-à-vis in favour of daughters as well as creating awareness in the society.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister himself reviewed the preparations for welcome and food arrangements for daughters coming to CM House. State BJP President Mr. Prabhat Jha and District BJP President Mr. Alok Sharma were specially present on the occasion. Earlier, he also reviewed preparations at a meeting of officers.

Cong terms ‘Beti Bachao Abhiyan’ a political stunt

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has termed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “Beti Bachao Abhiyan” (Save the Girl Child campaign) being launched in the state from October 5 as a “political stunt”. The MPCC alleged that the campaign is being launched on Government expenses.

MPCC president and Member of Parliament Kantilal Bhuria in a statement here said that no one could have objection on the efforts made in the direction of saving the girl child. However, the launching of the “Beti Bachao Abhiyan” is for providing political mileage to a political party is inappropriate, he alleged.

Mr. Bhuria said that the fact is that the BJP and state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan are not concerned for the women and daughters; they are only concerned for the votes. If the BJP and its Government would have a little concern about girls, then there would have been complete control over the girl foetus deaths in the State, he added.

He further said that the BJP returned to power in 2008 on the basis of “Ladli Laxmi” and other schemes associated with the girl child. Now, it is planning to win in the cover of saving the girl child and is implementing its electoral programmes through Government in order to confuse the women.

He alleged that in the BJP rule, State tops in heinous crimes against women and children including child trafficking, exploitation, murders and rape. About 52 per cent children in the State are malnourished and majority of them are girls. Series of malnourished girls’ death in the State is not stopping, they are not secured any where including on roads, hostels and police stations, he added.

Mr. Bhuria charged the BJP workers are linked in flesh trade. Involvement of BJP leaders is seen in the Ms Shehla Masood and Ms Vasundhara Bundela murder cases. If the girls and daughters have any danger, it is only the BJP whom they should be afraid of, he added.

He said that to divert the attention of the people from the real issues and to exploit the sentiments of the women to get their votes BJP and its Government is organising drama in the name of “Beti Bachao Abhiyan”.

Bhuria advised Mr. Chouhan to leave BJP’s poll preparedness responsibility to the state BJP chief Mr. Prabhat Jha and instead as a chief minister concentrate on the development of the state and welfare of the people.
