Bhopal: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has vehemently condemned the brutal incidents of Gopalgarh villages in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan wherein Gujjars aided and abetted by the Rajasthan Police not only allegedly indulged in firing to gun down but also burnt alive several Meo Muslims on September 14, 2011. The riots broke out over a 42-year-old dispute over Eidgah land near the village graveyard.

E. Aboobacker and A. Sayeed, SDPI’s national president and general secretary respectively, in a joint statement while calling for a judicial probe into the incident demanded the suspension of Superintendent of Police and Collector of the Bharatpur district and other officers of police and civil administration. He also demanded adequate compensation to the bereaved families and rehabilitation of those affected by the turmoil.

Aboobacker and Sayeed lamented the reported inhuman role of the police and the local administration in Bhopalgarh which acted completely in a partisan and biased manner in dealing with the clash between Meos and Gujjars. The inept handling of the sensitive issue by the concerned authorities led to bloodshed wherein precious lives of many Meo Muslims were lost while police either remained a silent spectator to the atrocities of the Gujjar villagers on the community members or joined hands with the Gujjars to teach minorities a lesson.

Aboobacker castigated the Rajasthan Police of denying media and fact finding team from visiting the affected areas to inter-act with the affected people to instill confidence in them and to unravel the truth. The reported attempt to put spokes in the wheels of justice by trying to suppress and destroy evidences related to the horrible, human rights violations of the minorities by the local police and Gujjars speaks volumes of their ill intention.

Sayeed expressed surprise that the local police haven’t yet registered any FIR from the survivors and relatives of those killed. It has registered an FIR against unknown Meos and Gujjars for gun firing which indicates clearly as to what the police is up to.

The duo called upon the Congress-ruled Rajasthan state Government led by Ashok Gehlot to tighten the state’s law and order enforcing machinery before it goes totally berserk so that the state’s people could feel secured and heave a sigh of relief.
