Madhya Pradesh CM to launch ‘Save Girl Child’ campaign from Oct. 5

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is going to launch statewide Save Girl Child campaign from October 5, 2011 in order to bring about a positive change in the society towards birth of the girl child. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will formally launch the campaign from his official residence. With this, Beti Bachao Diwas (Save the Girl Child Day) will be observed on October 5 every year.

According to an official release Chief Minister Mr. Chouhan reviewed the preparations for the Save Girl Child Campaign at Mantralaya here today. He had discussions with top officers about proposed programmatic activities under the campaign.

Mr. Chouhan said that the Save Girl Child campaign needs emotional involvement of society. Participation of every community will be ensured, he added. Describing the campaign as people's campaign, Mr. Chouhan said that mass awakening about issues of girl child from birth to education is urgently needed. Today, entire world is expressing deep concern over the decreasing number of girls. The State Government has taken a timely initiative, which needs involvement of every member of the society, he added.

Beti Bachao Yatra from October 11

Mr. Chouhan said that he would undertake Beti Bachao Yatra in which he would tour districts raising awareness among the masses about saving the girl child. The Beti Bachao Yatra in its first phase will start from Maihar in Satna district from 11 October. He would cover Satna, Panna, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur districts in four days. Public meetings would be organized at district and tehsil headquarters. It was informed that SMS through mobile phones would start from Navratra inspiring people to save girl child.

He sought cooperation of religious heads, social reformers, non-government organizations, media establishments, community representatives, political parties in spreading the message saying that dialogues with them will be held separately. He also urged the cabinet colleagues, members of Parliament, MLAs to organize programmes that awaken people towards the issues of the girl child. Slogans to suit the socio-educational status of different communities and ethnic groups have also been scripted for use in rural areas. The couples who have adopted daughters would also be felicitated.

The Beti Bachao Abhiyan will start from CM House on October 05, 2011. The Chief Minister will flag off Beti Bachao Chariot for Bhopal district. About one thousand daughters from Anganwadi centres, schools and colleges would be invited to attend the inaugural ceremony of the campaign.

Those present included Principal secretary women and child development B.R. Naidu, Principal Secretary Finance G. P. Singhal, principal secretary rural development Mrs. Aruna Sharma, commissioner public relations Rakesh Shrivastava, Director National Rural Health Mission M. Manohar Agnani, Director Women and Child Development Anupam Rajan and senior officers, the release added.
