World Bank invites MP CM Chouhan for talks on Innovative Development Programmes

Bhopal: Impressed by the Bharatiya Janata Party ruled Madhya Pradesh Government's innovative development programmes their positive outcome and experiences, the World Bank has invited the state Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan to its headquarters in Washington DC for a talk. The World Bank holds that these innovations and learnings need to be spread out.

According to an official spokesman the World Bank Managing Director Ms Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has written a letter to the Chief Minister Mr. Chouhan expressing World Bank's interest in hearing about Madhya Pradesh's development experience especially regarding development of women and children. She has also underlined World Bank's intention for expanding engagement with Madhya Pradesh in a range of sectors.

Referring to the recent visit of World Bank's delegation, Ms. Iweala appreciated the vision of Mr. Chouhan regarding integrated development, ending malnourishment among children and empowerment of women. She has mentioned about her experience of field visits in Raisen district to have first hand information and experience regarding innovative development schemes especially for women and children. She said that the World Bank intends to hold a talk of Mr. Chouhan on these issues.

It may be recalled here that a delegation of the World Bank recently visited the state and met the Chief Minister. The delegation described Madhya Pradesh as progressing state in respect of women empowerment and social security to the vulnerable sections. The World Bank delegation members described as the most practical and worth emulating the initiatives meant for bringing down maternal and infant mortality rates, inculcating positive attitude among people towards girl child. They held that such initiatives need exposure beyond geographical boundaries.

A number of initiatives in education, livelihoods promotion and protection, health, social protection like Ladli Laxmi, Mukhya Mantri Kanyadan, Gaon Ki Beti, Janani Suraksha, reservation for women in Panchayats and civic bodies are under implementation in greater collaboration and cooperation with the community and concerning stakeholders. Atal Child Health Mission has been launched for eradication of malnourishment among children with an integrated approach. The social sector is having 38 percent of state's total budget.
