OIC refers to Kashmir as 'occupied territory'

In what can be seen as a massive provocation, TIMES NOW has access to copy of a letter written by the Organisation of the Islamic Conference to Separatist leader Mirwaiz where Kashmir has been referred to as an 'occupied territory'.

A letter written by OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Thsanoglu, which invites Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to Kazakhstan, was sent from Jeddah.

The Organisation of the Islamic Conference is an international organisation with a permanent delegation to the United Nations, with 57 member states.

The organisation attempts to be the collective voice of the Muslim world (Ummah) and attempts to safeguard the interests and ensure the progress and well-being of Muslims.

This refence of Kashmir as an 'occupied territory' comes just a day after Mirwaiz demanded inclusion of genuine Kashmiri leadership in the dialogue process between Pakistan and India for bringing about a permanent settlement to the Kashmir dispute.

Mirwaiz said both the countries must initiate a concrete, sincere and meaningful dialogue process to settle the lingering dispute. He said that if the Kashmir dispute was to be resolved through dialogue then Pakistan and India must first improve relations and take steps to reduce hostility towards each other.

The APHC Chairman said that improving the ground situation in occupied Kashmir through confidence building measures was also important.

“We have already placed our proposals in this regard before the Indian government and hope that necessary steps will be taken to implement the suggestions,” he added.
